![]() A scenario I'll use software samplers for mangling is when certain functions aren't available in the hardware world or if it's a more straight forward way to do the same thing in software. ![]() Obviously there's uses for both environments when dealing with samples. Even if I had a hardware sampler that didn't give me anything special, if it was neutral sounding, I'll use it as long as the mangling options are there. Recording audio and editing pieces of audio, I'll do in my DAW. ![]() I also find sequencing samples to be more enjoyable in hardware. ![]() But if I'm mangling/synthesizing samples, I like to do it in hardware. I like doing edits to waveforms in software on my computer with a big screen so I can see the waveform in detail. So if we're talking about sampling and not compositions in a DAW, then it depends for me.
